Because I'm Cute.

I'm cute.

There. I said it. I am cute. Are you cringing?

Why?

Now, I'm only saying this because unfortunately I have a guy on Facebook who feels that it's acceptable to say things like this:

People should feel good about their bodies. They have the right to feel comfortable and happy in their own skin. Confident enough to declare such an innocent statement as "I'm cute". But apparently not. Apparently we'll be called "pathetically arrogant".

It's not about making out like you're better than everyone else. This isn't about shoving a superiority complex you deem us to have in your face. It's purely about being happy with yourself and having the right to say that. Sure, don't overdo it, but even if you do, you know what? Go you. Go you for making the best of what you've been given. We have one body, we may as well treat it with the respect it deserves. Shout to the world that you look fucking good if you feel like it. Because why the fuck not.

There's so much negativity over body image already, when I see things like this I can't help but feel upset by it.

It's just perpetuating the notion of oppression. Women with any sense of self-worth, that have the audacity to say anything good about themselves, should just shut up. Not only that, but then to be called names for doing so. It's horrifying.

What gets me is that this is by no means the first time I've seen something like this.

Alas.

Go ahead and be cute. Female, male, or anything in between, you are allowed to do so.

(I'd like to point out that the person in question in the Facebook post wasn't referring to myself, but I felt that I needed to rant about it anyway, especially after my comment had been deleted)
