Broken Glass In Your Laundry, Cerealgate, and Yet Further Goblin Romance

Four weeks of... a very interesting, very intense camp experience came to an end on Saturday.

I had applied again to the American Village experience, knowing full well my life as Peachy had yet to come to a conclusion, but also knowing that I would be working the holiday sessions for the first time ever.

Which I'm glad I did. Certainly.

But I think now, having said I've been working at camp the past year and a bit, I was lying.

BECAUSE THIS WAS ACTUAL CAMP.

There were tents. There were outdoor showers. And little to no soap in the vicinity.

And for reasons beyond my control, I was to be the HLC (Head Language Counsellor) for the duration. I had... power. Kinda. I thoroughly appreciate my team who never seemed to doubt that I were qualified to run all those meetings.

This particular camp proved challenging in ways only camp can challenge a person. We dealt with campers unable to proceed with bowel movements because they got poo shy in the open toilets, we had broken glass in our laundry (still an unresolved matter) as well as the mystery of just who stole the cereal and orange juice (another unresolved case, but one which I'm still looking into).

There were multiple trips to doctors for both campers and counsellors, and there were times where the emotional breakdowns were just part of the course. But we survived. Just. Had there not been such an awesome team surrounding me, I know that it would have been a far more difficult experience than it already was.

So thank you to the team I was a part of, and a big thank you to the many directors that we ended up having over the course of this weird, beautiful time.

And of course, a huge thanks to accepting the goblin and all of the oddness that entailed with that. You guys truly deserve more gratitude than I can share here for going along with... whatever the goblin is. The fact I have my own theme song now makes me beyond happy. Also that you guys were so willing to go along with my "let's make things weird today" and be so on board with me getting married to campers. Not that it was my first goblin marriage. Which perhaps says a lot. But yes.

Peachy out (until the next time, if indeed she is allowed another time, at least this year) x
