Life in Fiction (Part 5)

Read Part 4 here.

She wondered if her Nan would mind her bringing home a strange elderly gentleman. Immediately Kath regretted her decision. Of course she would mind. What kind of grandmother would actually enjoy their sixteen year old granddaughter coming home with an old man they had just met? Especially one which they knew nothing about. Not even a name.

Too late for that though, as she had already opened the front door, with the key that had a small cat keychain attached. You see, Kath really wasn't opposed to cats, despite being a "dog person". Plus, she had won this at the arcades from the two pence machines. She liked it because it was missing a paw.

"Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan" Kath cried out, chucking her bags in the corridor as she searched for signs of her Nan.

"We don't have any naans but there's poppadoms near the cupboard if you're hungry" Nanny Beth replied, walking into the conservatory from the garden. She removed her gloves and set them on the side, before turning to pour a glass of water from the sink.

"Also who is this man?" she asked, nodding towards the gentleman that Kath had decided to invite over.

"Allow me to introduce myself, dear lady"  the Answer bowed, taking Beth's hand and planting a kiss upon it. "I do so appreciate you allowing me into such a wondrous home". He grinned.

Beth finished her water and just smiled.

"Can you cut that lark out please." Kath gestured to her nan's hand. "Otherwise I will have to return you to the bus you came from. Like, honestly, my Nan has a girlfriend, you know". Kath scolded the man beside her, whilst Beth laughed to herself.

The End of an Era

I have finished university.

Done.

I mean, until graduation... which is bound to be an experience. It has certainly been an interesting journey. The relief is very real. At least, until the prospect of applying for graduate jobs dawns. I feel I may have skipped that process for a while, at least.

Here's to the future.

Will They Ever Learn

So, because conversations like this no longer occur regularly, much to my dismay, it's pretty fun when they do. Therefore, I will be briefly going over a conversation that is not dissimilar to a post I have made previously (which is more than likely down to the fact it is the same person...)

I may be the only one to find this amusing, but I feel like I am posting it more as a warning. The "straight white boy" is forever on the prowl.

Anyway, enjoy some screenshots:

When will they ever learn...

Bruges

Bruges was beautiful. I enjoyed myself immensely.

I recommend visiting if you want amazing chocolate and beer. However, to reduce Bruges down to just those two components is highly simplistic, so please also enjoy some of the photos I took too:

Beautiful place. Beautiful company.

Berlin

Because Ethan is probably the best person ever, I got to go to Berlin, courtesy of an epic birthday present.

Berlin provided the best food and beer one could want... and luckily for us, a propensity towards serving large quantities of both. It was excellent. Despite the copious amounts of meat leaving us a tad protein-ed out, it was definitely worth it. The first night there, we visited Hackethals, a truly delightful, tucked away (so tucked away, in fact, that we really were sure we'd taken a wrong turn down a very quiet, slightly ominous side road) restaurant that served perhaps the strongest beer I've ever had. The food was also extremely tasty.

It's a city steeped in history. Visiting the Berlin Wall, the Topographie des Terrors and the Jewish memorial, you can only just begin to fathom some of the events that have taken place there. It's truly an incredible and thought-provoking experience. I recommend.

Berlin, to me, has been one of the most interesting places I have ever visited. Thank you, Berlin.

Last Of Our Kind (Caution: Hot Dance Moves)

As many of you are aware (by that, I mean, I've probably shoved it in your face somehow), I recently starred in the new video for the song "Last Of Our Kind" by The Darkness (cue renditions of, "I Believe In A Thing Called Love....").

So, take a look at it, why don't you?

And if you already have witnessed this glorious mess, do it again. Because you get to watch me dancing in stripey trousers.

So beautiful.

(It also happens to be a fucking great song, off what can only be described as a pretty damn perfect album).

I feel extremely privileged to have taken part in my favourite ever bands work. Only fifteen lucky fans got to. As you can see, we had a lot of fun.

The guys seriously are just great with the way they interact with their fans. The Darkness Army are a delightful, gorgeous and very odd bunch. I'm very glad to be a part of it.

Life in Fiction (Part 4)

My oh my, revisiting this beauty, please feel free to catch up on the previous chapters, I had to myself: Life in Fiction (Part 3)

"What do they do with their wings? How did it stay in your bed? Why was it there?" the questions rushed out before Kath could even begin to wonder why this man... The Answer... had started his tale in such a way. It wasn't even about questioning the absurdity of it all, there had always been absurd moments in Kath's life... just, well... none involving seagulls. Not that she remembered, anyway. She was never too fond of birds. Kath had always preferred dogs to any other animal. Although she wasn't against cats, she never did understand the dichotomy behind "are you a cat or a dog person?" Because why can't you be both? Why were cats and dogs seen as opposites? Fluffy creatures with cute paws were all good in Kath's books.

Kath realised she wasn't listening properly, and turned her attention back to the man beside her.

"...And then that's why I had to use the chilli in that way... uncomfortable as it was..." The Answer sighed, as he adjusted his cane yet again.

Embarrassed to admit she hadn't quite been paying attention, Kath nodded empathetically and said "I've often felt the same"... "with the chilli and all... yeah, definitely".

The Answer smiled at her, the corners of his eyes crinkling in his weathered face. "I'm glad you agree, Kath". He nodded, sighing, and settled himself in his seat. "Now I definitely know I can begin with my tale, you see, I couldn't tell it to just anyone, but you... well, I do believe you are worthy".

Kath wondered when she should get off the bus. The route would be over shortly. But she couldn't stop here. Although she was sure the elderly gentleman beside her was nothing other than a lonely old fellow, she couldn't help but wonder about his story. That, and his name. Whoever called themselves The Answer was surely worth a listen. So, that was when she decided to invite The Answer to tea.

Finally she could stop fantasising about the stories of others and listen to a real one, she thought.
